1973 - First Watermelon to Exceed 100 Pounds for the Bright Family - Lloyd (L) and Ivan Bright won 1st place in the 1973 Hope Chamber of Commerce Big Watermelon Contest with this watermelon. They grew the 135-pound watermelon on their farm in the Rocky Mound community. (The Hope Chamber of Commerce re-started the Hope watermelon contest in 1956.) |
